Field experiance: Slick/Champion SB1-15A:

We found several loose, or even completely seperated distributor gear electrodes from the 4 Cyl Slick magnetos lately. The "soft" copper electrode used on the older gears can come loose over time, and can cause misfiring to the wrong cylinder during flight when complelely loose.
The newer gear (K-3008) with copper electrode can be renewed under warranty, and replaced by the Monel electrode type. The older gears (M-3008) are not under Slick warranty, but also needs to be renewed as soon as possible
SB1-15A from Slick describes the problem.

Field experiance: Slick/Champion Bendix/TCM pressurized magnetos
on turbocharged engines:

From time to time we still get magnetos in the shop after complete faillure or periodic maintenance with heavy moisture inside the magnetos caused by a blocked (clogged) outflow port (orifice or RPM sensor) of the pressurized magneto
This problem is known for many years and exists on all pressurized magneto systems, both TCM and Slick.
Water and/or other corrosives inside the magneto will cause severe damage to the plastic gears, and all iron parts inside. This can lead to a costly repair.
More important then the costs, is the safety issue in this matter
A simple check (each 50 operation hrs) for the open condition of the orifice/RPM sensor can prevent this from happening, also a complete check of the pressurization system is recommended at 500Hrs
SB1-88B from Slick describes the problem.

Field experiance: Kelly Aerospace dual magneto :

We now (10-nov-2020) had two cases in which impulse coupling stop pins have moved relative to the factory placement within the magneto frame of Kelly aerospace FAA/PMA manufactured magneto housing of a dual magneto, The stop-pin was found luckily undamaged inside the engine.
A liberated stop pin could potentially enter the gear train of the engine, resulting in damage to the gear train, damage to engine accessories
and could ultimately cause catastrophic engine failure. Also resulting in heavy oil-leakage through the magneto
A kelly aerospace manufactured housing can easily be identified by the kelly logo stamped above the timing hole (see picture).
